How to kickstart your spring detox

Spring is often the time to give your home a ‘spring clean’ and throw away junk that has been building up throughout the winter months. It’s also the perfect season to do the same with your body and undergo a detox, to re-energise your body with the help of a fresh spring diet.

The home doctor experts at House Call Doctor have put together a guide on how to kickstart your spring detox.

How to detox

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need any detox kits or fasting diets for your body to be able to detox. All you need is to eat healthy, organic foods and avoid those high in sugar, fat or carbohydrates. A detox can be effective with foods, such as:

  • Organic fruit and vegetables
  • Seeds and nuts
  • Herbal teas
  • Brown rice
  • Organic eggs and chickens

When it comes to what you drink, unfortunately your morning coffee shouldn’t have a place in your detox. Coffee elevates your stress hormone and once the effects subside, you will feel your energy levels drop.

Why detox

Not only will it help you become more fit and healthy as we enter the warmer months, a detox can also benefit your mental health. According to Assistant Clinical Director at House Call Doctor, Dr Ryan Harvey, “good nutrition, including a healthy balance of fruit and vegetables contributes to a high level of mental wellbeing”.

Ways to support your diet

The main factor in determining the success of your detox is the food you put into your body. However, there several physical therapies you can undertake to enhance your detox. These include:

  • Lymphatic drainage massage
  • Exercise
  • Saunas
  • Drinking 8 glasses of water daily.

If you are considering a detox, House Call Doctor recommends you speak to your GP to ensure it is safe for you.
